Wake Up Schools – Mindfulness in Education

Thich Nhat Hanh Education

Wake Up Schools supports educators in bringing mindfulness and applied ethics into their own lives, so they may live with greater happiness and freedom — and in turn share these practices with their colleagues and students. When mindfulness is present in schools, teachers and children can learn how to handle strong emotions, experience more peace, and create the foundation for a joyful classroom and a more compassionate world.

“I think it is the good teachers who will be able to change the world. That’s my belief, because a teacher can nourish, can heal, can build healthy, happy human beings.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh

Wake Up Schools is a worldwide movement rooted in the belief that mindfulness has the power to transform education. It includes a global network of dedicated practitioners who are committed to sustaining a personal practice — breathing, walking, mindful movement, body scans, eating, and more. In this spirit of service, educators explore how to weave these practices into classrooms and communities of children, teenagers, and young adults.
